Posted November 11, 2019 08:50:51The Indian film industry is expected to expand further after the government signed an agreement with Amazon Prime to offer its streaming services for free to Indian consumers.
The deal, signed with the Indian film studios last week, is expected in the next couple of weeks.
Digital platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime are the only platforms for Indian films available to customers in India.
However, the digital market is still struggling with the shortage of films, as the industry is looking to diversify its offerings and diversify from digital.
Netflix is the only platform for Indian movies currently available to Indians, but it does not allow viewers to stream any content to their devices.
Amazon Prime allows Indian consumers to rent and buy content from the company through its app.
This makes it a perfect fit for Indian filmmakers.
Netflix India has more than 2.5 million subscribers across the country.
With the Indian budget shrinking to a record low of Rs2.5 lakh in March 2018, the film industry in the country is expected by the government to increase its investment in production, distribution and promotion.
While Prime has the potential to provide a more efficient way of consuming films and increase the number of films available on Amazon Prime, it also has the possibility to disrupt the film ecosystem.
It also has to contend with the ongoing competition from Netflix in India, as Amazon Prime has a larger catalogue of content than Netflix and the Indian government is considering making Amazon Prime a mandatory part of the Netflix app.
According to a report by the Times of India, the government will be announcing the details of the deal soon, which will allow Indian film producers to stream films for free.
